Flexible. Focused. Practical.
Courses come in a mix of synchronous and asynchronous formats. You can complete many entirely on your own schedule. Others meet live (virtually) in the evenings, so you can be present wherever you are.
Each course emphasizes hands-on practice, so by the time you graduate, you will have built working prototypes, learning modules, design frameworks, simulations and AI applications. You’ll leave with a portfolio of finished work and the understanding to justify your recommendations.
Most students finish in one and a half to two and a half years.
Choose Your Focus. Build Your Expertise.
The online M.S. in ITECH offers two specialized tracks. Each one can be earned as a track within the degree or a standalone certificate. You can also work with your advisor and faculty to build a fully customized path through elective selections.
Artificial Intelligence & Learning Analytics
AI is already in your classroom or organization’s workflow. Instead of fighting against it, this track teaches you how to use it responsibly and apply it to enhance how people learn.
You will gain hands-on experience with learning analytics, data visualization and AI in instructional design.
Game-Based Learning & Learning Design
Games are one of the most powerful learning tools we have. This track teaches you to design them.
You will explore simulation-based learning, instructional design gamification and the motivational mechanics behind experiences that actually engage learners. The skills translate across sectors, from K–12 classrooms to corporate onboarding to healthcare training.

Our Artificial Intelligence & Learning Analytics Track
Learn how to evaluate and utilize artificial intelligence in education to better design learning modules in your school or organization’s workflow.
This track teaches you to critically evaluate AI tools, apply learning analytics to instructional problems and make data-informed decisions about how and when to use AI in instructional design to better serve learners. You do not need a computer science background. The courses offer a low barrier to entry, but a high ceiling, so you can go as deep as your curiosity takes you.
You can pursue this as a focused track within the online M.S. in Instructional Technology or earn it as a standalone Certificate in Artificial Intelligence & Learning Analytics.
Featured Coursework
- Introduction to Learning Analytics
- Data Visualization
- Introduction to AI in Education
- Applied Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning for Education
Format: 100% online with a mix of synchronous and asynchronous courses
Our Game-Based Learning & Learning Design Track
When games are well designed, they are some of the most effective learning environments we have — this track teaches you to build them.
You will study the motivational mechanics behind game design, explore simulation and scenario-based approaches and develop hands-on skills in design thinking and gamification in education. The applications reach well beyond the classroom. Game-based teaching can be used in healthcare training, corporate onboarding, nonprofit education or anywhere else people need to be engaged.
You can pursue this as a focused track within the online M.S. in Instructional Technology or earn it as a standalone Certificate in Game-Based Learning & Learning Design.
Featured Coursework
- Design Thinking for Learning
- Problem-, Scenario- & Simulation-Based Learning in Interactive Multimedia Environments
- Game-Based Learning
- Online Teaching & Learning
Format: 100% online with a mix of synchronous and asynchronous courses
At $20,550 total, Lehigh’s M.S. in Instructional Technology comes in well below the Pennsylvania average for comparable graduate programs.
