International Students

We welcome international applicants to our programs. However, international applicants are not eligible for a student visa.

International students must also submit an evaluated transcript if their education was completed outside of the United States.


English Language Proficiency Test Scores

For graduate applicants who fall into Option C below, the College of Education accepts:

  • TOEFL internet-based test (TOEFL iBT)
  • IELTS
  • Duolingo
  • Cambridge

TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, and Cambridge test scores are valid for two years from the date the test was taken. If test scores are expired or expected to expire, an updated exam will be required.

Lehigh’s ETS (TOEFL) school code is 2365.

Applicants who obtained their degree(s) at an institution that does not primarily teach in English are required to supply one of the following test scores with their application:

English Proficiency

To empower students to be successful, both during their academic journey at Lehigh University as well as during their future careers, Lehigh requires all applicants to demonstrate proficiency in English. Lehigh offers multiple paths to demonstrate English proficiency. These paths are defined below.

  • Option A: Speak English and are a citizen or permanent resident of a country where English is an official language.
  • Option B: At the time of enrollment, will have earned an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited U.S. college or university located in the U.S. Please note that you must have been physically present in the U.S. for the majority of your enrollment, a minimum of 2 consecutive years.
  • Option C: At the time of enrollment at Lehigh, will have earned the international equivalent of a U.S. degree from a college or university located in a country where English is an official language and where English is the language of instruction. The medium of instruction must be indicated on the transcript/transcript evaluation or easily verified on the institution’s website. Please note that you must have been physically present in the country of study or a minimum of 2 consecutive years.
  • Option D: At the time of enrollment at Lehigh, will have studied and/or worked full-time for at least 2 consecutive years with in the last 5 years in a country or employment setting where English is an official and widely spoken language. This experience must be noted on a transcript and/or described on a resume or CV. We will accept a combination of study and work—e.g., an applicant who completed a 1-year master’s degree in the U.S. followed by 1 year of OPT. If you are or were a student, the full-time study must have been for at least 2 consecutive academic years AND English must have been the language of instruction for your studies. Please note that you must have been physically present in the country of study for a minimum of 2 consecutive years.
  • Option E: Officially submitted TOEFL iBT, IELTS, DuoLingo or Cambridge scores.
